Finding Your Voice
It’s not uncommon for situations and relationships to influence the communication style in which one operates. Regardless, to build healthy communication habits, it’s important to get familiar with the basics.
By becoming more aware of their most used communication style, individuals are given the opportunity to develop a stronger, healthier, and more assertive communication style. This allows couples to evaluate themselves and collect a set of tools to maintain healthy communication even when emotions are running hot.
In this two part workshop couples will engage in assertiveness training to increase their understanding of themselves and their partner. In each session, both partners will be encouraged and supported to find their voice and learn how to communicate their feelings, desires, and thoughts while respecting those of their partner.

Finding the Compliment
Let’s be honest, when our emotions are on full blast, when all the wrong buttons have been pushed in all the wrong ways, it’s easy to hyper focus on the negative. When we desire mindful communication, we are challenged to think beyond our emotions to maintain a healthy perspective of our relationship and communicate accordingly.
One way of communicating with perspective in mind is to include compliments when confronting a partner or making a request for change. It’s not to butter them up; it’s not to manipulate; and it’s not to dance around the issue. Rather, it’s to help create a space where the listening partner is able to hear and respond without defensiveness.

Finding the Joy in Your Story
We all have a story. Unfortunately, our pain, mental health challenges, our values and beliefs, and the actions and behaviours of others can distract us from writing our stories as free agents in our lives. Instead, we depersonalize ourselves. It's in this place where our identity is overcome by our circumstances: stuck, lost, depressed, anxious, childless, and broken.
Joy can be felt in the darkest and hardest seasons, when our identity isn’t dictated by our circumstances. By diving deep into our stories, we have the opportunity to become more aware of how our experiences and trauma have tried to change us. This awareness allows us to make better, more informed decisions that foster hope for a joyful future, a joyful story despite our circumstances.
